FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. Essentially, it is a software program that allows someone who has files on different computers to move them from one location to another. All Web Browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc) have their own “built in” FTP software, which is why the following directions are independent of you having your own FTP software installed on your machine. There are many different software applications you can use for running FTP, some of them are available free on the internet.  There are also a few available in the Downloads section of this website.

If you are not familiar with FTP, you should start with the directions on the this page.  Using your web browser is the quickest way to get connected to your  files on your H drive.

FTP Instructions for Internet Explorer

  1. Open your Internet Explorer Program
  2. In the address bar, type ftp://ftp.ehc.edu
  3. When the login window pops up, enter your E&H username and password

After you have done so, click Enter.

It is NOT a good idea to save your password, as your H:/ drive will not be as secure. At this point you should see the contents of your H drive. You can open your files from here and work with them in your web browser or you can copy them to your C drive and work with them in whatever application you have on your computer that will open them.
